Very touching concept for this video, as Musiq Soulchild has been named Ambassador for the Susan G. Komen’s “Circle of Promise”, a movement designed to further engage Black women around the globe in the fight against Breast Cancer. Musiq will help raise awareness about the importance of early detection. His new video for the song, “Yes” drives this point home.

At the writing of this blog…it is pouring rain(seemingly sideways :-) but coming down at a study pace nonetheless. Just coming out of the studio from another busy morning on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, when Sybil Wilkes mentions that R&B singer Vesta(Williams) was ‘reportedly’ found dead in her California hotel room. For most of the morning the story was unconfirmed- given that the Associated Press nor other reputable news sources had any confirmation (to me a bit odd). She was just on the Fantastic Voyage with the crew earlier this year and Vesta was having a blast….AND NOW NEWS OF HER DEATH!!! Well by now just about everyone has either twitted or post on their Facebook pages about her untimely passing at 53 years old. The music industry and closet friends/fans are understandingly in disbelief as much as I am. What great music and energy she leaves behind, along with an INCREDIBLE SENSE OF HUMOR, and without question will be sorely missed….and goes without saying TOMORROW IS PROMISED TO NO ONE…whatever the cause of death, Vesta was an extraordinary and very talented individual who left her mark with those who loved and respected her….she will forever live on through her music and wonderful memories…what a talent and class act!!!

CBS Snub?

*What! TV Guide is showing its true colors.

Taraji P. Henson is outraged because the magazine will feature the cast of her new CBS series, “Person of Interest” on its over, without … Taraji P Henson, it’s leading lady!

She took to her Facebook to share her anger about the issue.

“WOW!!!! TV Guide is NOT including me on the cover with my cast memebers [sic]……..I am the female lead of a 3 member cast and I’m not included on the cover!!!!!! Do you see the s**t I have to deal with in this business…..I cram to understand!!!!”

She posted on Twitter saying she couldn’t believe the boldness of TV Guide.

“WOW @ TVGuide!!!!! Being a member of 2 academys I honestly have no words!!!!!”

Henson stars as Detective Carter alongside Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel, and Kevin Chapman in the crime drama.

And what does TV Guide have to say about the glaring, beyond obvious omission? As of this posting, nothing.

*The National Religious Broadcasters (NRB) group sounded the alarm Thursday about new media outlets such as Facebook, Google and Apple, which they say have written policies that violate the fundamental rules of free expression, particularly concerning religious free speech, says the Christian Post.

The NRB released a report at the National Press Club Thursday analyzing the various content policies of social networking websites. What they found was disturbing: new media platforms Facebook, Apple, Comcast, AT&T and Google have adopted policies to censor lawful viewpoints expressing Christian views or controversial ideas on “hot button issues.” Some platforms, such as Apple’s iTunes App Store and Google’s search engine, have already started to use those policies to remove orthodox Christian viewpoints considered “offensive” or too controversial.

*Poet and author Maya Angelou is not happy with a paraphrased quote from Martin Luther King Jr. inscribed in his new memorial in Washington, saying the shortened version makes him sound like an “arrogant twit” because it’s out of context, reports the Washington Post.

The words were from a sermon King delivered Feb. 4, 1968, at Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church, two months before he was assassinated, about a eulogy that could be given when he died.

King said, “Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter.”

On Tuesday, Angelou, who consulted on the memorial, told The Post King would have never said of himself that he was a drum major, Angelou said, but rather that others might say that of him.

“He had a humility that comes from deep inside,” Angelou told newspaper. “The ‘if’ clause that is left out is salient. Leaving it out changes the meaning completely.”
