Let me first say teachers in general need a nice pay raise for the job they do with OUR youth. For those of you who don’t know I’m a substitute teacher for Guilford County(K-12) and it’s rewarding in numerous ways beyond money. I see first hand the challenges teachers, principals, custodians, office staff face daily and 1 major problem are some of the parents. They call the school cussing and fussing because the school is doing there job informing the parent of the students absence. Now here’s where the issues start.  The parents are listening to there child’s version of the story as if they don’t know their own child and what they’re capable of doing. You raised them so you know 1st hand what you have. I’m a parent and I think the world of my daughter and she’s an A-B student but that doesn’t exempt her from wrong doing. If your child back talks you what makes you think they don’t do worse to someone they don’t respect?

Yes it’s embarrassing getting a call from the school about your child but it’s more embarrassing making excuses for there actions. Think back when you were in school…..did you do everything right? In our time they really couldn’t keep up with us skipping but now with cameras, paging systems and other checks and balances the office knows when they skip or when they’re absent. Wouldn’t it be nice if parents called the school to volunteer to help out or to just drop by to see their child “in action”! There was a time when the school had the support of the parents but now we don’t want anyone telling us about our CHILD! It’s past time to cut the cord and stop babying your child’s grown up decisions. Eventually they might have to take care of you.
